Build Back Equal:
Joint SDG Fund
The Bahamas Development Bank (BDB) served as the National Coordinating Authority for the Build Back Equal Project, the first successful Bahamian proposal to the Joint SDG Fund.
This collaborative initiative, led by UN Women and supported by UNDP, FAO, and UNESCO, focused on capacity building for entrepreneurs and training in women’s empowerment principles for both government and private sector stakeholders.
As part of the project, the Bank launched a gender-equitable financing instrument, marking a significant pilot initiative for the region while strengthening international partnerships and connections
Integrated Land Management
As a member of the steering committee for the $22M Integrated Land Management Project, BDB is providing strategic guidance on this effort to reduce land degradation and promote sustainable land-use practices.

Disney Cruise Line Partnership
The collaboration between the Bahamas Development Bank (BDB) and Disney is a significant step toward empowering MSMEs on Eleuthera, fostering economic empowerment, sustainable development, and increased opportunities for local entrepreneurs.
Cornerhouse
The Cornerhouse Project focuses on the restoration of five historic buildings (three three-story and two two-story) in downtown Nassau, creating a dynamic multi-use space that integrates retail, cultural experiences, and business support services.
Unlike traditional marketplaces, the Cornerhouse will function as a fully staffed eco-system, allowing small business owners to focus solely on production while the marketplace handles sales, logistics, and customer interactions. It is unique in scale, scope and goal, making it an unprecedented effort to create structured enhancement of the manufacturing sector.

Pine Island Cascarilla
The Pine Islands Project is a transformative GEF-funded initiative that focuses on sustainable forest and land-use management across four key islands in The Bahamas. Through this project, the Bank plays a catalytic role in developing sustainable livelihoods and intends to fund the creation of a Cascarilla distillation facility on the island of Acklins. This initiative will support the preservation of both the local industry and the unique ecosystems of the Pine Islands, while empowering the community to benefit economically from the responsible management of natural resources.
Past Projects
Andros Community Cluster Project
The Bahamas Development Bank (BDB) was proud to serve on the steering committee of the Andros Community-Tourism Cluster Initiative—a transformative effort uniting over 120 local enterprises, entrepreneurs, and agencies across North, Central, South Andros, and Mangrove Cay.
This pioneering project positioned Andros as a model for sustainable, year-round nature-based tourism. By focusing on flats fishing, birdwatching, cultural heritage, and other value-added experiences, the initiative supports economic diversification while safeguarding the island’s rich natural and cultural resources.

Apiary
The Apiary Project began in 2018 in collaboration with the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), the Ministry of Grand Bahama and the Department of Cooperatives. The 16 week program trained young people in beekeeping and provided financing for small business startup.
